Sub-Theme(s): Remote Microphone Technology (RMT) or FM systems for Autism
RMT or a FM system is where the participant uses ear level receivers (one or two) and the speaker uses a microphone that streams their voice directly into the participant’s ears. These devices are typically used to overcome noise and distance.

Note: All criteria need to be met for the supports to be funded through the NDIS.
Additional Legislation: these supports may not be R&N because:
- Part 5.2 (a)
- The recommended support may not be an additional living cost because of the participant’s autism.
- Most children will benefit from a personal listening device, including children with no disability or additional listening problems.
- Part 5.2 (b)
- The cost is not ancillary to another support funded or provided under the participant’s plan

NOTE: Auditory processing disorder can exist independently of autism, with many people without autism also experiencing it. Similarly, children often have compromised listening skills depending on many factors including but not limited to their age, their personality, their environment, the addition of other issues such as ADHD etc.
