3 When a plan is continued without a check-in
A plan continuation is when a participant’s current NDIS supports continue for up to 12 months after their reassessment date. This is for participants whose recommended confidence level is high, which indicates their plan is working well for them and will likely continue to meet their support needs. Confidence levels are calculated daily in PACE for each participant. They help guide the most appropriate planning pathway for the participant, which could be a:
- plan continuation without the need for a check-in
- plan continuation recommendation after a reassessment check-in
- plan reassessment recommendation after a reassessment check-in.
In most situations, participants with a high confidence level will continue with their current NDIS supports without having a check-in and a new plan developed. To learn more, go to section Understand confidence levels and check-ins in article Understand types of check-ins.
Note: don’t talk about ‘confidence levels’ with the participant. This language is for internal use only.
3.1 What does a continued plan look like?
The continued plan will include:
- a repeat of the participant’s NDIS supports from their previous plan, for an additional 12 months
- any once-off capital supports funded in the previous plan which haven’t been bought yet. For example, assistive technology, equipment or home modifications
- any unspent funding for NDIS supports from the previous plan. This funding can still be used, and the funds will be added to the continued plan
- annual indexation based on the NDIA annual pricing review.
The participant’s total funding amount in the continued plan may look different to the plan that was originally approved. Reassure the participant that they can continue to access their NDIS supports and spend in line with their plan.

4 How the participant will be notified about their continued plan
If the participant’s plan is in PACE, they’ll receive a letter and a digital notification to let them know of their plan continuation. These letters will be generated and sent to the participant:
- at 116 days before their plan reassessment date. In this letter we’ll let them know their NDIS plan is due for reassessment. Instead of having a reassessment check-in and a new plan, we’ll continue their current NDIS supports for up to 12 months. We’ll also provide information on what we consider when continuing a plan and what will happen next. It will tell them what they need to do if they’ve already requested a plan change or if their circumstances have changed and their current NDIS supports no longer meet their needs
- on the reassessment date. In this letter we’ll let the participant know that their plan has been continued. We’ll provide information on the benefits of a plan continuation, what their continued plan includes, and what they need to do if their circumstances have changed. We’ll let them know that we’ll be in touch if they’ve already requested a plan change.
In both letters we’ll explain that they can access their my NDIS participant portal and app to find their new plan reassessment date and amount of funding for supports in their continued plan.
To view letters sent to a participant, go to the Documents tab in the Person Account.

5 When a plan is continued after a reassessment check-in
Some participants are not suitable for a plan continuation without a check-in. This means we want to find out if the participant’s plan is working for them or if they’ve had any changes to their circumstances, before their reassessment date.
A letter is generated and sent to the participant to let them know we want to arrange a check-in with them. It tells them what they need to prepare and what happens after this check-in.
Once the reassessment check-in is done, a recommendation is made to either continue the participant’s plan with similar supports or reassess their plan. A planner delegate will look at the information recorded during this check-in and make an informed decision on which planning approach is most suitable, and let the participant know about this decision. To learn more, go to section Scheduled Reassessments: Reassessment check-ins in article Understand types of check-ins.
If the plan reassessment date passes before the participant’s reassessment check-in, their current NDIS supports will continue for up to 12 months or until a new plan is finalised. Explain this to the participant and reassure them that this is so they can continue accessing their NDIS supports.

6 How to support the participant with a continued plan
If the participant contacts us about their continued plan:
- Answer any questions or concerns they have about a plan continuation.
- Reassure them that they can continue to access their NDIS funding and spend in line with their plan.
- Talk about any issues or concerns they may have with implementing their plan.
- Talk to the participant about how they can use their plan flexibly. Support the participant to understand how they can use their continued plan to meet their needs and pursue their goals.
- Discuss how they’ll need to budget for the full 12 months of the continued plan.
- Let them know they’ll need to tell their providers that their plan has been continued.
- If they’ve already requested a plan change, let them know we’ll contact them about this. Make sure the participant knows what evidence we’ll need from them to support their change in circumstances. For more information, go to Factsheet: Evidence you need to give us before we create or change your plan (external).
- Reassure them that they can ask to have their plan reassessed, before the reassessment date and we will support them.
