Theme: Home Modification Sub-Theme(s): Ceiling Hoist

As per NDIS Guidance for builders and designers, new ceiling hoist and installation is considered a home modification, whereas a separate assistive technology code exists when replacing the ceiling hoist unit itself into existing tracks or for a standalone hoist (e.g. gantry, or wall mounted hoist that does not require any new structural home modifications to be installed

into the roof). S47E(d) - certain operations of agencies

Therefore, to summarise, a ceiling hoist is considered a home modification when:

  • a new hoist unit and tracking is to be installed either to the ceiling or wall. A ceiling hoist is considered as assistive technology when:
  • it is supply and fitting of a hoist unit only to existing tracking.
  • it is a free-standing gantry system
