Procedure
Determine funding for high cost AT
Find the cost of the AT support using the following resources as a guide:
- information on the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits section of the NDIS website
- the assistive technology budget tool in PANDA. For help to use the tool to find the benchmark price refer to Standard Operating Procedure – Add mid cost assistive technology in a plan
- the product catalogue in the NDIS Business System (System).
Check if you need mandatory advice from the Technical Advisory Branch (TAB) for the AT support. Request advice if needed.
Use this amount to determine if the high cost AT is reasonable and necessary. Refer to Our Guidelines – Assistive Technology.
Draft a detailed comment to add to the participant’s plan. Make sure you include the following:
- the reasonable and necessary amount of funding you determined in step 1
- a description of the AT support you are approving (planners and delegates) or recommending (partners in the community)
- the description of the item from the Assistive Technology, Home Modifications and Consumables Code Guide. Example comment: Funding for your specialised computer input device using eye or neural/neuromuscular control up to the value of $19,800.00. Note: Include all the detail in your comment. When the participant submits the quote it is compared to the information you record.
