Submission 1000 — Name Withheld — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1000

Dear senate Inquiry,

I am a person who lives with complex psychiatric disability.

Since being supported by the NDIS I have been able to leave hospital supports of 10+ years of regular admissions every 3 months to obtain the sports I require to ensure my safety and capacity to function in daily living

If I am one of the unknowing 160,000 to lose my participation rights, my personal safety and functionality will be lost to a life of living separated from my husband and my daily community connectedness.

This threat of an unknown cohort being cut off from supports is causing destructive stress on my health and well-being.

Psychiatric disability is poorly understood and the functional capacity assessment does not even inquire into the deficits of our disability.

The cornerstone of our disability is an inability to recognise our own identity (not the roles we hold, but a felt sense of our own reality) and thus we become extremely vulnerable to other people making decisions about our lives and our safety. This state can occur as a continuous state, or it can randomly arise and remain our cognitive state for an unpredictable period from weeks to years.

I ask the senate to research psychiatric disability more seriously and establish a new assessment tool that accurately determines our capacity and support needs. And makes a statement that ensures that psychiatric disability participants will never be removed from the NDIS.

Sincerely

(Current NDIS participant with complex psychiatric disability)
