Concerns regarding cuts to disability supports impacting social connection and daily living (Participant experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1015

Dear Committee Members,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026, particularly the proposed reductions to disability supports.

Many participants with intellectual disabilities require 24/7 support for life.

The proposed Bill includes cuts of up to 50% to social and community participation supports and 10% cuts to assistance with daily living supports. When I hear about these proposed reductions, I do not think about government savings I think about the impact these changes will have on the lives of people living with disability.

I think about fewer opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the community, fewer friendships, fewer activities, reduced independence, increased isolation, and lives that become increasingly disconnected from the world around them.

These supports are not “extras.†They are essential in helping people with disabilities participate in everyday life and remain connected to their communities. Importantly, NDIS funding generally only covers the support worker hours required to access activities, not the activities themselves, tickets, meals, or other participation costs.

For families living with disability, this is not a theoretical issue. These proposed changes have the potential to significantly reduce quality of life, inclusion, social connection, and opportunities for people living with disability.

I urge the Committee to carefully consider the real-life impact these proposed cuts will have on vulnerable Australians and their families. People with disability deserve the opportunity to remain connected to their communities and to live full, meaningful, and inclusive lives.

Thank you for considering this submission.

Kind regards,
