National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1091
To the Senate Community Affairs Committee,
My name is and I live in Ipswich Queensland. I am writing in regards to the NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026 because the NDIS has had a significant positive impact on my life and wellbeing, and I am deeply concerned about some of the proposed changes.
I oppose changes that may reduce supports, increase reassessments, or make it easier for funding to be removed without proper review and consideration of the individual persons needs. I am especially concerned about cuts to social, core therapies and community participation supports and the increasing pressure placed on participants to constantly prove their disability and support needs.
The NDIS has helped me start to organise my home environment and has taken pressure off my partner to do everything for me, who already works full time. It has helped me live in a cleaner, calmer environment and reduced the constant anxiety, overwhelm, and depression I experience. I live with chronic anxiety and chronic depression after a lifetime of struggling to function in social situations and from feeling overwhelmed, and often being misunderstood or manipulated and abused because I process and cope with things differently. The supports I receive have not only helped practically, but emotionally as well. They have helped me understand that the way my brain functions is different, but not wrong, and that with the right support I can still have a meaningful and functional life.
Because of the NDIS, I no longer feel completely incapable of coping with daily life. I rely on these supports to help me complete daily and weekly tasks and maintain stability. The fear that this safety net could be reduced or taken away is extremely frightening. These changes may appear minor administratively, but for people like me they could mean losing independence, stability, mental health, and the quality of life where I am finally feel like I can breathe.
I ask the Committee to protect participant supports, maintain strong and person centered reviews and appeal rights, and ensure the NDIS continues to support disabled Australians to live safely, independently, and with dignity rather than creating fear and uncertainty.
