National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1126
Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill
Along with many disabled people in Australia, I strongly oppose this bill, and I urge the Government that is it changed. I am a person with Level 2 Autism and Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and I have relied on the NDIS for years to have a functional life. I also have many loved ones who have mobility issues whose lives have been improved drastically because of the services from the NDIS.
If this bill passes, my main concern is about the limitations and restrictions to how the funding will be used for participants. It has been proven that disability cannot be assessed purely by ‘low/high level support needs’ and when support is restricted because of that assessment, it can be life-threatening to the participant. I am also worried about the rules about participant engagement, especially when they are non- contactable because of their disability, eg. if they are in hospital, unable to manage communication, experiencing a life crisis, etc.
This bill may affect me because I am regarded as ‘low-functioning’, even though I rely on the NDIS to fund for my therapy sessions and transportation allowance. My autism cannot be cured or adjusted. I wish for the committee to understand that it is extremely harmful and disrespectful to decide that this bill needs to be put in place without consulting disabled people.
Please revoke this bill.
Sincerley,
