Opposes cuts to social participation and review rights

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1132

To the Senate Community Affairs Committee,

I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed NDIS Future Generations Bill, as well as my profound concern regarding the changes the Government intends to implement to the NDIS.

As a member of the community who deeply values the dignity, safety, and inclusion of individuals with disabilities, I believe that the proposed changes are unjust and threaten to undermine the rights, safety, and independence of these individuals. The changes in question would decrease choice and control, restrict community access, and reverse significant progress made toward full participation.

I urge the Committee to protect the rights of people with disabilities and ensure that the NDIS continues to uphold its foundational principles. Specifically, I ask the Committee to:

Reject the proposed cuts and any measures that would diminish social and community participation.

Guarantee robust rights to review and appeal, allowing individuals to contest decisions that impact their lives.

Safeguard genuine choice and control, including the freedom to use providers of one’s choice whether registered or unregistered, while maintaining appropriate safeguards.

Allowing these changes to proceed would risk reverting to a time when individuals with disabilities were excluded, devalued, and too often neglected or abused. While the current system is not without its flaws, it empowers people with disabilities to participate, contribute, and be acknowledged as equal members of our society.

I kindly ask you to consider these concerns and refrain from passing the NDIS Future Generations Bill.
