National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1181

Without ndis I wouldn’t be able to afford to live or be able to have any quality of life, actually I would most probably be dead.

I’m at 25yo female who lives with her 82 year old grandmother. Due to a multitude of complications chronic health conditions, I am disabled in many ways including physically and developmentally .

Before ndis I was isolated I was not able to go out on my own, participate in the community or economy. Something as simple as going to the shops to buy groceries I could not do. Not only that but without the support of the ndis to lessen some of the financial strain of being disabled like funding for my ot, physio and psychological which before was either privately funded or put onto the public section I would not be able to afford all of my medication which would then lead me to needing to be admitted into hospital frequently.

Not only am I able to get out and about which means I can patipate to the economy. I also have a support worker who is funded by the ndis who pays tax.

This support worker also take me to critical medical appointments that without them I wouldn’t be able to attend and would end up at emergency. The ndis give me access to a support network I would otherwise not have as unfortunately my nan is not able to support me due to her age and my needs.

I am aware there are issues with the ndis and yes there will be a very small percentage of people who take advantage but 99.99% of us use it how it’s intended and not how the government and or media has prorated it.

I believe that’s if the ndia staff were more appropriately trained and were able to read applications including all evidence properly that that would be of large benefit. It’s so far take 4 attempts and 3 years to get

additional diagnosis’s added with a lot of back and forth things getting lost by the ndia, them not reading applications properly and not ready evidence at all. Opposed to them having the appropriate training and being allowed the right time to do things correctly the first time therefore saving time which saves money and would reduce the strain on the ndis.

The ndis does more good than harm and allows people to live a more normal life and to be able to participate in the community and economy, it’s also lessen the pressure on the public health system. The ndis allows people like me to have a life that has some quality of life to it. Due I get to do everything a normal 25 year old would do… no. But I don’t expect to as I am disabled but it allows me to live a life with some quality to it and to be able to do things other than go to hospital.
