National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1216
Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill
My name is and I am a Disabled person
My main concern about this Bill is:
The NDIS is a lifeline for many of those who have a disability. And anyone can become disabled at anytime and at the drop of a hat.
This Bill may affect me because:
• I cannot drive due to my disability, and my friends and family have to get on with their lives, so in order to access the community and life administration that requires access to a car. • I am more likely to be abused and taken advantage of by those who have taken advantage of me in the past without any sort of protection/witness that could force the person trying to take advantage of me to behave appropriately because of my disability. • One of my friends has started to experience compassion fatigue and it is not my friends responsibility to care for me full time.
One example from my experience:
I am currently going through a very bad case of Autistic burnout due to spending nearly my entire childhood masking my autistic traits because “What will people think!?” and as a result I have Autistic shut-downs more often and have had quite a few near misses of Autistic Meltdowns, which occurs when I am extremely overwhelmed due to sensory overload, such as being made to stay in an environment that can cause me to be in sensory overload (example, being made to stay in a location in which there are screaming children, direct sunlight, constantly changing plans, etc.) and I also have a higher likelihood of suicide due to living in a world not built for me, the NDIS helps me navigate the world that isn’t built for me without having a meltdown or being faced with discrimination.
What I want the committee to understand is:
Everyone can become disabled at any time, including the members of the community, I don’t mean to sound rude but its reality. If you make these cuts you’re not only affecting those who are already on it but you could also be sabotaging yourself. We have the right to live with dignity. We don’t use the NDIS to do things like ‘go to the cinema’ or ‘get haircuts’ even though we have a right to do those things. We need the NDIS to help us access the community, get the supports and therapies we need to help us live our lives with dignity and without any pain or mental health problems that may come with having a disability.
My position on this Bill is I do not support it
Because: We are people, like you, also, nothing about us without us. I would like the Government to withdraw the bill.
