Concerns regarding access to physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for NDIS participant (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1236

Thursday 28th May 2026

I am writing on behalf of my husband who has been an NDIS participant since 2018, regarding the proposed cuts by the Australian Government at the 2026 Federal Budget.

Since having access to the NDIS for Peter, we have seen huge gains in his mobility and independence from getting secured access to regular private physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He has had access to social support which has allowed him to continue in his community work that he always did prior to his brain injury, and that same social support has allowed me to return to work on a casual basis.

The proposed changes could potentially limit our access to these essential supports. It would limit his time being supported to do things independently, it would limit his choice to be part of his community, and almost certainly relegate 100% of his daily care to myself again. We have concerns on whether he will still be able to access his therapy supports which are maintaining and increasing his physical function.

I am happy at any time to be contacted and to give further comment and information regarding these concerns.

Supporting our citizens, regardless of ability or disability, is the hallmark of a civilised, enlightened government. We are troubled that these proposed cuts are signalling the opposite of this
