National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1287
Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill
Name:
I am a: ☐ Disabled person
My main concern about this Bill is:
This bill will bring in restrictions that will not work for everyone who requires assistance from the NDIS. Each person with a disability, even those with the same diagnosis, are individuals and have different lives in different places. I am concerned that these changes will more greatly impact those within the disabled community that are already more marginalised.
This Bill may affect me:
By increasing the use of administrative and automated systems I will lose the human aspect of communication with those at the NDIA. It is important to me that a real person can look at my circumstances and make decisions based on who I am, what my goals are and where I live.
One example from my experience:
One of my goals through the NDIS is to find and maintain a job. Working is really important to me as I am able to be part of the community and support myself without relying on a pension or my husbands income alone. I am able to work at a part time capacity and know that as an intelligent and diligent person I can make a positive impact on a business and my community by working and supporting the economy. I had a lengthy discussion with someone at the NDIA about how this goal is very important to me and that the funding the NDIS provided me under “Finding and Keeping a Job” was helping me go through a program of cusomised employment that would help me reach a goal of maintaining employment. Once I received my plan, however, it did not provide the funding I needed. The funding was only sufficient for one specific type of assessment that is not available anywhere near where i live in regional WA. Throught the support of APM and In-Tune Employment Services, i was able to request a review from the NDIA. I am hoping this will adjust my funding so I can continue to go through the customised employment program.

What I want the committee to understand is:
Everyone with disabilities is very different, with different needs and goals. If this bill passes, it will not allow for the variation that different Australians need. We all live in different areas, with different access to supports, programs and treatments. What might be easily accessible for someone in a major city will not be for someone in a regional area. What is possible for someone with a full-time carer is not possible for someone who receives a few hours with a support person per week. What is possible for those who can work is not possible for those who cannot work and rely on the disability pension. There needs to be flexibility so that equity can be achieved.
My position on this Bill: ☐ I do not support it
Because: Sweeping blanket changes will affect those who live regionally, rural or have tighter financial situations more.
