National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1335
To: Members of Parliament
Subject: Urgent Need for Full NDIS Funding to Support Inclusion, Accessibility, and Dignity for People with Disabilities
I am writing to urge Parliament to fully fund the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and ensure it continues to meet the needs of Australians living with disability in a meaningful, accessible, and sustainable way.
The NDIS is not simply a funding mechanism. It is a vital framework that enables people with disabilities to participate in community life, maintain independence, and access the supports necessary for their wellbeing and safety.
Accessible Support Through a Centralised System
Reducing NDIS funding would force many disabled individuals to navigate alternative support pathways that may be limited, inconsistent, or entirely unavailable. This creates unnecessary barriers, delays, and confusion for people already facing significant challenges.
A reduction in funding does not reduce the number of people requiring support. Instead, it shifts vulnerable individuals into increasingly difficult circumstances, often resulting in greater hardship, poorer health outcomes, and increased strain on other public services.
Maintaining a well-funded, centralised support system ensures people can access essential services efficiently and equitably, without being lost in fragmented or inaccessible processes.
Supporting Community Access and Participation
NDIS funding must continue to prioritise supports that enable disabled people to actively engage in their communities. Access to transportation, social programs, recreational activities, and community events is essential for fostering inclusion, connection, and independence.
These supports help reduce social isolation, strengthen mental wellbeing, and ensure people with disabilities can participate fully in public life alongside their peers.
The Importance of Full Funding
Any reduction or restriction in NDIS funding risks excluding disabled Australians from opportunities that many others take for granted. Without appropriate supports, individuals may experience increased isolation, reduced independence, and declining physical and mental health.
National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1335
Full funding of the NDIS reflects a commitment to equality, dignity, and respect for all members of our society. It recognises that people with disabilities deserve the same opportunities to contribute, connect, and thrive within their communities.
Economic and Social Benefits
Investing in the NDIS delivers long-term social and economic benefits for Australia as a whole. Supporting community participation enables people with disabilities to contribute as employees, volunteers, students, carers, and consumers.
A more inclusive society is stronger, more resilient, and more connected. Furthermore, adequately funding preventative and community-based supports helps reduce future costs associated with healthcare, crisis services, and institutional care.
Our community is strongest when everyone is included.
I respectfully call on Parliament to ensure the NDIS remains fully funded, accessible, and focused on empowering people with disabilities to participate fully in community life.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to building a fairer, more inclusive Australia.
