National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 140
Dear Committee Secretary,
I write in opposition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.
I am concerned that this Bill has not been drafted in good faith, in consultation with the disability community, and is in opposition to Australia’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
I am concerned that many of the measures in the Bill risk harm to disabled people and theiramilies.
I am concerned about the increased power of the Minister to remove people from the scheme, to alter plans, and to suspend and cancel a person’s place in the scheme. f
I am concerned about the removal of the role of the Administrative Review Tribunal, and the way people can no longer appeal decisions by the Minister.
I am worried the change in time from 21 days to 90 days for the NDIA to make a decision on application to the scheme delays time for critical early intervention for people who need it urgently before their capacity declines.\t
There are a host of measures in the Bill that risk isolating people with disability and sending us backwards in terms of an inclusive society.
I am not a lawyer or understand the complexities of government legislation so I cannot respond to the specifics in the Bill as other submissions will be able to. I am a time-poor, fconcerned parent who cares about and loves Deaf and disabled family members, friends, and co-workers.Iam desperate o seea more compassionategovernmentandareveryworriedabouttheextreme measures outlinedinthisBill.
