Submission from a Frontline Allied Health Provider’s Perspective

Overview:

As owner/director of Sydney’s mobile physiotherapy provider supporting neurologically impaired individuals with intellectual disabilities across various settings including SILs, it is evident that fear surrounding plan reviews and funding decisions among families and providers. The unpredictability during reassessment processes has led some avoiding necessary reviews despite deteriorating function or increasing risk.

confidence and independence. These activities are often clinically valuable and should not tbe viewed as separate from functional capacity building.

I respectfully ask the Committee to consider the following:

  • Maintain flexibility within participant plans to respond to fluctuating or progressive conditions
  • Preserve access to preventative allied health supports aimed at maintaining functionand reducing long-term costst
  • Improve consistency and transparency in planning and review decisionss
  • Recognizee the importancetf therapy implementatitioannd suppor t workerinvolvementt i n achieving outcomest
  • Ensure community participation continues to be valued ase legitimate functiotnal an dtherapeutic suport
  • Considerthe unintended consequences that fear antd uncertainty around reviews may have on participantt wellbeinga nd willingnessto seek appropriate support
