National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1539
My name is [redacted]. I am a parent of two children on the NDIS and I also work as an independent Support Coordinator supporting participants and families across Queensland. I am writing this submission because I am deeply concerned about the direction of the proposed changes to the NDIS and the impact they will have on children, families, and people with disability who rely on the scheme to live safely, participate in their communities, and access basic supports that many Australians take for granted.
My 16-year-old son has Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 2 and an endocrine disability. He can been an NDIS participant since approximately 2020 His plan funds support worker hours and therapies allow him attend school regulate community continue developing independence life skills The support my son received through NDIs has changed preserving Due mental health impacts associated his disability there periods where our family feared safety future Access appropriate supports Therapies funded through ndis supported develop functional skills many people take grant progressed from requiring substantial assistance being able walk safe transport vehicles independently become continent These outcomes not only improved dignity quality Life reduced long-term reliance intensive supports Removing reducing early intervention disabilities does remove need In cases creates greater risk crisis cost both families broader system My daughter years old has Autism Spectrum Disorder level ADHD anxiety Oppositional Defiant Disorder intellectual impairment severe learning disabilities expressive language delays sensory processing challenges emotional dysregulation significant eating barriers period she becomes non-verbal distress She requires daily support across communication emotion regulation education sensory needs Learning Community participation Her ndis currently allows her speech therapy occupational dietetic support limited support worker assistance enables her attend school engage Therapy Supports helped learn communicate regulate emotions safely participate everyday Without these supports impact on children Family would devastating Their progress taken years are luxuries optional extras reason why can access Education, Communicate their needs Participate in the community maintain stability Safety Like parents with disability ability to stable employment significantly impacted caring responsibilities exclusions requirements behavioural crises medical appointments lack adequate mainstream supports I have previously lost opportunities due care require daughters needs became so within mainsteam education settings advised could no longer be adequately supported

that environment. These realities are not uncommon for families raising children with complex disability needs. As both a parent and Support Coordinator, i am seeing growing fear uncertainty across deathility community.i supporting familes who are receiving notices reassessments reviews often without clarity about what support will remain available them.many participants in crisis exhausted repeatedly having justify their disabilty functional impairment basic support needs.I deep concern destabilisation occurring across Support Coordination sector many particpants rely long term trusted relationships coordinators understand risks communication styles trauma histories housing situations medical needs safeguarding requirements.Families already fearful losing providers they have worked years invested study compliance professional development front line disability work support vulnerable participants through complex systems loss experienced independent coordinators reduce complexity participant increase crisis fragmentation system failure family operating immense pressure. The Independent Review outlined roadmap recommendations specifically identified foundational supports necessary precondition significant eligibility funding changes occur. Those foundations do currently exist practice Families being told mainstream systems absorb supports yet those systems overwhelmed inaccessible underfunded unavailable reality burden falls unpaid carers commonly mothers reducing employment entirely fill gaps.also concerned these changes clearly presented Australian public despite scale proposed reforms projected participant reductions Decisions magnitude require transparency, public consultation genuine engagement deathility community.NDIS simply budget infrastructure prevents crisis keeps children schools hospital admissions reduces breakdown participation allows people live dignity.Reducing does remove need shifts costs hospitals mental health services education systems housing services families beyond capacity.ask committee explain how eligibility and funding can proceed when dfoundational remains unavaible also ask whether downstream cost modelling completed regarding impact these changes on hospitals, mental health systems, schools, housing and unpaid carers if so why that modeling not been publicly released. almost reject delay these reforms until foundaional are established an human rights assessment is complete meaningful consult with people disabilities familes frontline workers occurred.
