National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment
Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 Submission 1689 Committee Secretary Senate Standing Committees on Community Affairs PO Box 6100 Parliament House Canberra ACT 2600
Date: May 28th Recipient: Secretary, Dear Secretary,
We write to express our concerns regarding changes being made with regards to the NDIS.
Our child [redacted] suffers from significant impairments including an intellectual disability along with chromosomal defects; further complicating matters was their TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) suffered due to pedestrian accident back when they were twenty-two years old prior which had been part-and-parcel within society’s perception as something abnormal. The introduction of the NDIS changed that dynamic entirely: since its implementation, [child’s name redacted here], has experienced mainstream engagement opportunities previously unavailable in her life before this program came into existence. We cannot overstate how important it is now not just for disabled people but also specifically for our daughter who would otherwise be isolated and grouped together like during those ‘bad-old-days’ leading up towards Royal Commission findings.
The NDIS redefined what life looks like especially extending a balanced support system encompassing both disabilities alongside mainstream activities thereby challenging goals she might never have set without such focus placed upon core supports and capacity building by way of goal-related assistance provided under said scheme; as we are extremely concerned about proposed cuts concerning community participation & capacity-building areas these represent priorities for us personally given our daughter’s social nature yet lack thereof necessary skills required to match her intentions socially, she remains very vulnerable particularly so regarding understanding pragmatic language or reading between lines indicating needs beyond mere surface-level interactions necessitating constant companion card usage.
National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment
Submission: Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 - Submission No.:1689
In summary:
- Community participation ensures mental health.
- Reduction in such leads to behavioral deterioration & ‘Behaviours Concern’.
- Significant risk if NDIS plan decreases; depression, isolation likely, support staff maintenance challenges also concern us further down line.
The mother’s aging is not suitable as carer due to challenging relationships; his/her grandchild should be cared instead (another one coming). Without support from NDIS he/she faces community engagement issues, cannot access needed supports when faced with barriers leading decreased ability to work towards his life/goals/NDIS goals.
