National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment Bill
Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill
I am an:
- Disabled person
- Family member
- Healthcare worker My main concern is: As someone both affected personally as well as professionally within public health due to multiple disabilities; having deep connections through interactions daily involving vulnerable individuals. The primary issue regarding this bill pertains directly towards me or those supported under similar circumstances where reduced support for disabled persons diminishes their quality-of-life significantly while isolating them from society altogether. This bill may impact us/individuals we assist since it reduces accessibility for all disabled folks which implies our world isn’t designed with inclusivity hence necessitating additional supports. It also leads into difficulties accessing basic necessities such medical appointments, grocery shopping, preparing meals etc., thereby compelling families of disabled members often unable themselves to shoulder these responsibilities effectively. Furthermore, lack thereof will result in worsening conditions among disabled participants if they’re currently employed and thus losing access to essential care services. Moreover, providers might be compelled out of work without adequate resources provided by disabled clients leading to a detrimental effect overall.

and then they have to jump through hoop after hoop to gain access to support, and now that support is even harder to gain access to.
What I want the committee to understand:
Removing support for disabled people doesn’t just affect disabled people. It affects their families and friends, and it affects the providers who support them. The NDIS returns $2.25 to the economy for every $1 put into it. The NDIS keeps people inthe workforce, and helps people get into the workforcethe NDIS gives disabled people a reason to live when the world tells them that they areworthless to society. It provides them with the support to show that they arejust as skilled day-old able-bodied people. Yes, to the NDIS supports should not be punished.Instead of cutting funding to the NDIS and removing participants investigate fraud and do something about that.
