Submission 1886 — Name Withheld — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1886

Retired due to disability

I am a participant on the NDIS and I strongly oppose the new NDIS Bill.

The NDIS has allowed me to maintain a level of independence and confidence to live safely in my own home.

I live alone, have elderly parents and minimal informal supports.

The assistance I currently receive from the NDIS enables me to maintain my home, consume a more adequate and nutritious diet and maintain my physical strength and mobility.

I have secondary progressive multiple sclerosis and depression. If my supports are reduced I believe that it will be a real risk to my physical and mental health.

I attend a group MS gym class once a week that is run by an amazing Neuro physiotherapist. I also see a fantastic exercise physiologist once a week. These two hours of therapy per week are so helpful to me. The benefits of exercise for people with MS are well documented and without it my ability to mobilise independently would reduce and my risk of falls would increase.

I am also socially isolated. Apart from my parents and the occasional appointment, I would go weeks without leaving my house or seeing anyone. If funding for my exercise classes was reduced it would also have a negative impact on my depression.

I believe the Bill in its current form is dangerous and is likely to cause harm. This Bill should not be passed by parliament.
