Who I Am and Why I Am Submitting

I am writing this submission as K’s cousin. K is years old and was born with Cri du Chat syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes severe intellectual disability, significant communication delays,, complex behaviours of concern,,, high physical support needs.. She is my family, and i have grown up alongside her..\nI am submitting because this Bill will harm k and others like her, andbecause ithinkit mattersthattheCommitteehearsfromthepeoplewhoarepartofaperson’s everyday life — not just their parents anda carersbuttheadvancedfamilywholoves themanda witnesseswhattheirlifeactuallylookslike.

My Request to the Committee

The ‘parental responsibility’ provisions suggest that parents should provide similar levels of ongoing daily support as provided currently through K’s mum; however these needs go far beyond what any parent can reasonably manage alone indefinitely without burning out. Removing appeals means if an incorrect funding decision occurs, which evidence shows happens often - there would then no way back for a family like mine, suggesting: The NDLS makes possible good lives for those involved but this bill removes significant benefits from families such ours.
