My Concerns About Impending Changes To The NDIS And Implementation Of Thriving Kids
As a pediatric occupational therapist with over forty-two years’ practice, including twenty-one as an owner-operator within Sydney’s Hawkesbury region since inception to date, I remain registered under the NDIS despite significant costs associated as such a small-business operator. Proposed policy shifts regarding both entities—NDIS and Thriving Kids—are likely to result in serious repercussions not just on providers but also families served thereby impacting parents/guardians/extended family members educators schools local communities employers broader public witnessing children/families losing access to necessary supports. Such exclusion from service ecosystems could engender substantial backlash among these stakeholders including voting citizens business owners clinicians and community leaders who have no say into forthcoming decisions affecting them directly.
Families Will Lose Access:
- Trusted therapists & established therapeutic relationships will be lost by many families;
- Waitlists/service shortages will worsen significantly;
- Children may miss out early intervention opportunities during critical developmental stages;
- Regional underserved areas disproportionately impacted; Many children aged nine or older lose support if services become financially unsustainable; Reduced access to ongoing care negatively impacts long-term outcomes education participation school engagement independence mental health community involvement future workforce entry etc.; Voting families business operators healthcare professionals affected without input into changes made.
Small Businesses At Risk
Many private pediatric allied-health practices face financial insolvency closing down while numerous clinical staff positions are at risk leading economic disruption overall. I am asking you:
