National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 1964

To whom it may concern,

I am writing regarding the proposed changes to the NDIS as someone who relies on it both for myself and for my child.

I am a mother of two boys living with both mental illness and chronic pain that, in the words of my doctors, is “too complex to help me live a normal life.” The NDIS is confusing, difficult to navigate, and at times incredibly frustrating. Like most systems, it has flaws. But despite those flaws, it has also been life-changing.

These supports do not make me “less disabled.” They make it possible for me to remain a mother. My child also receives therapies that help him live his best life and give him the tools to navigate a world not built for him. These therapists and support workers are invaluable, and even now they already seem overwhelmed by the growing number of children needing help. I cannot imagine what would happen to families like mine if these supports were suddenly removed. Over the last six years I have also been navigating the public healthcare system. While I am incredibly grateful for Australia’s public health system, it is already struggling under the weight demand. lwaited two and half years to see a gynaecologist, then another two years for endometriosis surgery.I waitedtwoyearsseepain specialist.Thesdelaysarenotrare-theyarerality.
