Submission: Concerns regarding reduced reassessment accessibility and barriers for participants with psychosocial disability (Participant experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2019

To the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee,

I am writing regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.

I work within the disability sector and hold concerns regarding the practical impact these proposed reforms may have on vulnerable NDIS participants. In particular, I am concerned about:

  • reduced reassessment accessibility, narrowing review pathways and ART oversight,,increased barriers for participants with psychosocial disability, intellectualdisability, austism, tamua, and complex support needs,,,restrictions surrounding Support Coordination involvement, broad Ministerial powers to reduce categories of supports, reduced social and community participation funding, increasing reliance on informal supports and parental responsibility, andthe potentialforvulnerableparticipantstodisengagefromorlose accesstothScheme.,While I support efforts to improve the integrityand sustainabilityofthenNDIS,I believe reforms must continue toprioritise:participant safety, accessibilityprocedural fairnessindependent oversighthandy meaningful individualisedsupport.I respectfully ask the Committeeto carefully consider thereal\ world impacts thesechangesmayhaveonparticpants, families, carers, andfrontline disabilitypworkers.Kind regards,
