National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 204

For NDIS Senate Enquiry

I am extremely concerned that the NDIS will say I am no longer permanently deaf as I have Cochlear Implants. But I was born profoundly deaf in 1954. Worry No.I - I still totally deaf when take Speech Processors off at night. No normal smokealarm will wake me . Need flashing light vibrating alerts to be safe.Worry No.\u{3} – do understand English language or any full language.as sound till years old.School taught speak lipread but cant spell read write properly.Poor maths general information.Speech Processor brain doesnt make understand what heard before. It takes long time learn English.am Deaf need keep learning Auslan able interpret more less dependent on wife.wife is old die day.Older too Aged Care does not cover cost replacing speech processors start wear out work properly. So stay with NDIS never want go back being completely deaf.not safe fair.Look after myself people looking just because afford replace my speech processor strobe alarm etc. Also older frail need aged care.Worry \u{3}\u{-} new way testing see needs might good for Deaf people.big worry.can do lots things if have speech processors access interpreters special alarms clock video doorbell smart watch.dont want them saying can look yourself during so dont need the NDIS.Without technology,Auslan interpreters and my speech processors wouldnt live without someone particularly at night. They would ears again. Not fair.
