Dear Senators,
I am writing about the proposed changes to the NDIS. My aunty who has a 22-year-old son with autism as well as mental health challenges faces enormous difficulties in caring for him due to which my family’s quality of life is affected too.

participants, carers and service providers – who will be affected. 1. That the proposed changes will undermine the provision of early intervention(s), and that [this]will [be much more costly][in the long run]forthe community.The needs willnot disappear -they will just manifest indifferent demands: mental healthservices,hospital[s],andprobably juvenile justice and correctionsas well.Earlyinterventionis acost saving expenseinthelongterm.Alsothestates have indicated they wil not ableto replaceNDIS serviceswith ‘like fore-like’.What this means isthat there willo no individualised supportsf or children based on theirneeds. Thattheproposedchanges signify th at government now considers then DIS like an incomesupport scheme(welfare)[rather than as a support system that people witha disability need to live in our communities,and lead dignified independent lives].
