Use of automation, algorithms and standardised tools

cannot safely rely on automated systems, algorithms. Children often present uniquely; decision-making should include clinical judgement.

Concerns about Increasing Concentration in Decision-Making Powers

I am concerned about the increasing concentration of decision-making powers and potential reduction in transparency surrounding pricing and funding decisions. Sustainable pricing is crucial for maintaining access to experienced allied health professionals including paediatric physiotherapists if:

  • Increasing complexity of care,
  • travel requirements, non-face-to-face services, documentation/reporting needs, or due to workforce shortages; significant risks include reduced service availability longer waitlists increased attrition poorer rural complex participant access. Independent evidence-based processes are essential within the scheme’s quality trust maintenance.

Recommendations

Respectfully urge Committee consideration these recommendations: Ensure functional capacity assessments prioritise comprehensive clinical assessment professional judgement Limit reliance automated decision making ensure human oversight eligibility planning Maintain flexibility reassessment review when participants’ needs change Protect early intervention ongoing therapy supports children with disability developmental delay No participant loses support before alternative systems operational Preserve building participation as inclusion long-term outcomes Pricing governance must be transparent, evidence based supporting sustainability. I want Parliament amend bill ensuring no reductions occupational therapy community participation.
