National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submitted by a person supporting their sibling’s lived disability. I am extremely worried about government plans to reduce funds under the NDIS - which scheme enabled your brother to overcome barriers, mitigate risk/harm, improve his functionality, his intellectual disability. He spent half without support and another life supported by NDIS. The NDIS was crucial; enabling him build functionally, overcoming obstacles, achieving goals. My disabled Sudanese brother lives alone due single mum not speaking English or communicating with non-Dinka speakers who can’t care intellectually impaired son zero. So I allowed them live together me daughter. Life changed when my second child fiancé bought property in regional Victoria transitioning back living mother where he worked long hours couldn’t communicate drive etc., support needed now. My hope that NDIS would see this upon change of circumstance review. Meanwhile exploited by gangs vulnerable naïve because intellectually challenged gang members introduced petty crime including shoplifting. This story isn’t new family as other brother incarcerated from same gangs needing extra supports instead lost ALL core funding…..ALL! Now worse off no core capacity supports before legislation passed! NDIS already implementing cuts community participation daily living capacity building……even before it passes parliament What will happen after?

I have been depressed ever since to the point of struggling to get out of bed. I just feel so isolated that no one is helping me with my disabled brother. I know I have the right to live my own life with my family (including two children), but the NDIS clearly doesn’t agree. Decisions show it thinks you still must take responsibility despite living far apart: regional Victoria vs Melbourne! The NDIA delegate cared less about jail costs than saving on bottom line! No care or support was shown towards your disabled sibling’s needs… Concerns abound over safeguards & iCAN assessment tool inadequacy painting an inaccurate picture into disability support needs; he believes he can achieve things when he cannot… Electronics element instills intense fear – putting lives under electronically produced plans feels like a risk especially after Centrelink issues in past years. We lodge our concerns as representatives of this individual who has seen improvement and support from their investment made through the scheme, which we believe should not be cut back due its wise philosophy of spending now saves more later. This new legislation does not align well thought-out changes carefully considered rather rushed through parliament, such wisdom being thrown aside by this bill.
