Opposes NDIS Bill cuts impacting disabled people (Participant experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2110

Dear Committee,

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed changes contained within the NDIS Future Generation Bill and the broader cuts and restrictions being pushed through by the government. The NDIS is not a luxury. It is a necessary lifeline for disabled people across Australia. For many people, these supports determine whether they can live with dignity, participate in community life, access healthcare, maintain employment, and survive day-to-day. Weakening these supports will have devastating consequences for disabled people, their families, carers, and support workers. The framing of disabled people as ‘a cost burden’ rather than people deserving of rights, care, and inclusion is deeply concerning. Instead of cuts, the government should be investing in strengthening public disability services, ensuring stability for participants, and properly supporting the workers who provide this essential care. Support workers themselves are already facing insecure conditions, burnout, understaffing, and increasing pressure. Any reduction in funding or access to services will directly impact workers as well as participants. Disabled people and workers have shared interests in defending and improving the NDIS. I hope that organisations, unions, community groups, support workers, and the broader public will unite with disabled people in this struggle. We cannot allow austerity measures to undermine the rights, wellbeing, and dignity of some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. I urge you to oppose this bill and any measures that reduce access to supports, restrict participant choice, or make it harder for disabled people to receive the assistance they need. Disabled people deserve security, dignity, and support — not cuts. Sincerely, Kyle Wiebe
