Occupational therapy supports at risk (Provider experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2124

Dear Committee Members,

I am writing to make a submission regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.

I am an Occupational Therapist and I am concerned about several proposed changes in this Bill, particularly the proposed reductions to capacity building and social, civic and community participation supports from October 1st of year not specified but likely related contextually as part of broader discussion around NDIA funding cuts starting that date which is common practice when discussing such bills. The supports are essential because they help people maintain independence build everyday living skills participate their communities reduce long term needs In experience occupational therapy & capacity-building have helped [brief example – e.g improve daily functioning maintaining employment participating activities supporting child development reducing carer strain etc.] . Also concern restrictions on reassessments increased use standardised or automated decision-making tools disability support can change over time require flexibility ensure plans remain safe appropriate responsive real-world circumstances. Proposed funding reduction broad ministerial powers categories risk undermining individual care limiting access services including OT. Urge Parliament: to reverse cut capacity building participatory supports; to decisions based individ need professional clinical assessment retain practical pathways re-assessment review prevent automated without human oversight protect access ot allied health supports. supports recommendations No OTs No NDIS campaign Thank you considering submission Kind regards, occupational therapist
