Submission 2127 — Mrs Melanie Kent — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2127

I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls both of who have disabilities. My oldest Isabella is now 21 years old. She was born with Down Syndrome and at 4 years old she was diagnosed with severe autism and anxiety. She needs help with everything and as proud as am of every little gain she makes in her life she will never be independent and will always require support. I am her main caregiver. I also work part time. I am unable to work full time as we have therapies, medical appointments and other appointments often that require me . It’s a very stressful work load but I do it. I also have a 19 year old daughter Bianca who has an intellectual disability and level2 autism. She is striving to find her way in a world that doesn’t have a lot of options for her. We are constantly trying to manage behaviour issues, eating disorders which have gotten to a point that her paediatrician has had to put her on vitamin supplements as she has no nutrients in her body, I am now fighting with NDIS trying to get her the help she needs as they didn’t feel that OT was worthwhile or “ value for money” . Apparently my daughter’s eating issues that are now causing health and behaviour issues are not worth fixing as everyone tries to blame disabled people for the cost of the NDIS . I understand it needs to be sustainable there are other things that could be done instead of punishing disabled people. Look into the billing practices of big companies and look into their business practices where participants are engaged in work which is really morally questionable. Also it seem whenever equipment is need there seems to be a NDIS tax that we don’t have a say in but NDIS could make it clear that the games up. Instead of punishing families and people with disabilities find other ways to make the ndis sustainable. This is going to cause so much harm to people that are already vulnerable. Thank you for your time Melanie Kent Frankston VICTORIA
