Supports NDIS support for young adults with Autism and mental health issues (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2141

Dear Senior Clerk,

I am writing about the proposed changes to the NDIS plan.

I have two young adults in our extended family with Autism and mental health issues. The challenges for both these young people and their families has enormous impact on all their lives. Support they receive from the NDIS is invaluable. In both families one parent has had to give up work to support their child.

I understand how important the NDIS support is for both families. This gives them small breaks to reset from their caring responsibilities. These young people also get the social and community support which makes their lives so much fuller and less isolated from people of similar age groups.

I also know a close friend whose eldest grandchild, who’s five years old was diagnosed recently with autism. He faces no language skills or toilet training difficulties among other related problems. For this young family it’s an immense challenge but early diagnosis along with extra help provided through different learning specialists are helping guide him throughout his lifelong journey towards recovery as well as adaptation into society at large level where he can be integrated smoothly without any hindrance due lack of proper care and attention required by such children suffering under various disabilities like yours mentioned above case scenario here too!

So I’m hoping that those three families will continue being supported wherever needed areas exist while doing everything possible best interest of their respective kids themselves.

Thank you very much considering my concerns, Yours sincerely
