Submission to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

My name is Amber Blythe and I am writing this submission as a parent. I support the goal of protecting the long-term future of the NDIS. However, I am concerned about how future reforms may affect children and families who rely on supports to maintain stability, independence, and participation in the community. as a parent of a child who will require ongoing support into adulthood, worry what the future will look like if access to supports becomes more restricted. one my biggest concerns are social & community participatation supporst these suppoarts often misunderstood as “extras” when reality they play vital role helping disabled people build confidence indepence socia skills connection communitiey. these suppotrs essential familes careers maintaining stablity balance long term sustanability home without appropriate supports many parents struggle maintian employment while meeting full time care needs their chid personally worry own ability continue working futur son unable acces suports he need safely participate comunity build independenct outside home also concern increasing expectation that familys rely informal supprot cannot rely informa supprots such family members care son because work responsibilites own worried assumption familys simply step in if suprots reduced but for mani familys not realistic sustainable longterm all familys have relatives available assist caring responsibilities extended familia members already balancing fulltime work financial pressures children or health concerens should placed position where expected fill gaps essentil suprotss proper consideration real life capacity reducing suprots may reduce need it may shift burden onto parents carers and stretched families can lead increased stress burnout financia hardship soci isolation reduc workforce participation carers support help disabled peopel particiapate communty build independence shoule be viewed preventative protective supports optional extras benefit individual long-term wellbeing sustainability of families & carers

Submission 218

I believe future reforms to the NDIS should:

  • Protect access to community participation and social supports,
  • Recognise the important role parents and carers play,
  • Consider the long-term impact on families if supports are reduced and ensure disabled persons are not isolated from their communities due to funding restrictions. The NDIS has made a meaningful difference in many families’ lives, including families like close family members of mine who have benefited greatly as well. I respectfully request that any changes be designed with these individuals at heart so they can continue enjoying all aspects life without being left behind or feeling excluded.
