I am a single mother living with permanent physical, neurological and psychosocial disabilities. I have four children also live with physical, neurological, psychosocial, genetic disabilities They now aged: twenty-three nineteen sixteen fifteen Although scheme has been kind to us without it’m sure would be alive But feel what government want The proposed changes to legislation have explained properly nor accessible way all understand It makes stop think about they’re trying hide or draw attention from However make sense place additional risks lives those like children rely others simply survive Changes scare me will kill people break apart families As disabled person say don’t get lived just survival If these changes won’t even able do People die Families torn long term costs more:

  • Less income via GST - Less income tax Increased legal costs Child Support Centrelink staff being required Unemployment Costs Health Child Protection staff required Centrelink payments Out of Home Care children We collectively know these costs Those having had privilege tertiary education learn form So why privileged scared share resources From looking up because too scared real hard work Why poor still suffer while rich continue hoard in contemporary society Have we not learned better In my three younger children’s own plan insufficient Went through review process ended AAT Process only came end April 2024 Successfully got most supports needed Can’t imagine how much lawyer cost taxpayer experience cost me

It tore me apart internally, and system still waiting to reimbursement transport support they wrongfully took away gave back But NDIA said was “too much pay participant lump sum” Insinuating I responsible with money despite maintaining mortgage upkeep our home And disability costs more typical person’s life What broken family worth How did lawyers? This adequate support; came too late Family broke because didn’t get needed when needed Now two disabled children contact myself living with them disabilities prevent seeing real perpetrator caused their distress lucky country’government Because really what NDIA think going happen single mother caring small disabled children herself informal support many families agency tear apart My heart is broken likely never recover Have good friend Why haven’t even had time maintain establish new friendships night off years youngest child to .5 year school hours poor system disabled children general area forced home Reduction core my children would mean impossible wouldn’t be able work study and children busy doing housework can fight House mess, could have serious falls ending hospital dead We not access community need Centrelink payments charity handouts scrape by If capacity building supports reduced removed – lose mobility fast decline becoming fulltime wheelchair user require accessible home mine cannot modified Boys unable develop skills active economic participants also rely on Centrelink health will without all extras afford employment Worked hard ensure that children employment aspirations unlike own parents happily spent decades government housing unemployment foul smelling legislative change Government bring undone

Without supports, one of my children would die. But that’s what the government wants me to believe. And permanence - I understand you want to change the definition. What does it mean now? We have jumped through a lot justifying that we’ll always need support because society has changed since then, is there any reason at all to expect us being able to live without assistance anymore?
