National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2189

Thank you for the opportunity to provide a submission in response to the Na6onal Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Genera6ons) Bill 2026.

I am not someone who requires the support of the NDIS, though I live with several chronic health illnesses. I do, however, know and love people who use, work within and are undergoing the process to access assistance through the scheme. I am also someone who is deeply aware of the possibility that any one of us, regardless of background or current health, could one day need access to the services that the NDIS provides. It is on these grounds that I wish to raise my concerns with the proposed changes under the Na6onal Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Genera6ons) Bill 2026.

I am concerned that this Bill will: • Make it harder for people to access the NDIS is their func6onal capacity appears improved when they receive supports, technological assistance, or environmental modifica6ons. • Take away par6cipants’ dignity of risk. Par6cipants should have a say in the treatments that they decline, and not have that be detrimental to their eligibility. • Entrench the financial and physical hardship of those who suffer from disabili6es by requiring par6cipants to try treatments that are out of their financial and geographic means, just to stay on the scheme. • Increase par6cipants’ administra6ve burden and impacts par6cipants’ mental load. Par6cularly in cases of mental health crises, hospitalisa6on, or disability impac6ng a par6cipant’s ability to communicate. • Leave Au6s6c children with no support within the scheme, without adequate early interven6on support alterna6ves.

I understand the need to ensure the financial sustainability of the scheme, however this should not come at the cost of those in our society who most need a helping hand. As such, I ask the Government not pass this Bill in its current form. Thank you again for the opportunity to raise my concerns.
