National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2218

I am writing to express my significant concerns regarding the recently introduced National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future generations) Bill 2026. as the parent of my daughter who is a 21-year-old woman With Down syndrome, i Am deeply worried By The government’s proposed cuts—specifically tHe projected reductions To social, civic, and Community participation Funding. Government analysis Recently revealed That people with down Syndrome Will Be among the hardest hit BY these structural funding Reductions. My Daughter Is at A crucial juncture in her life. She works part-time In food preparation,an achievement that requires immense dedication, routine ,and targeted Capacity-building Support. The ndis funding she receives does Not just fund “activities” ;it provides THE scaffolding THAT allows Her TO maintain HER employment,Build LIFE skills AND stay connected to her community.Crucially, this funding Allows herTo engage support workers Who provideThe essential,hands-on assistance She needsto travel_to,_attend_and successfully participate_in bothHer workplace_Community activities and various Social events. Her social Participation funding directly covers her attendance At music Events_fitness classes And short breaks away from home. These are not luxuries. They Are key_TO_her enjoying_a normal LifeAnd maintaining_her physical_and mental health. If herCommunity participation_and capacity building funds_are slashed_Her world will shrink.Stripping Away THESE supports_directly threatens _HER_part_time Employment_risks forcing her_into_social isolation_and causes_an undoing_of her hard-earned daily living_skills.Furthermore_I want_To convey_the severe emotional toll_that the constant NDIS changing regulations_over The many years_is taking_on our family._THE_constant influx of Changing_regulations_shifting framework timelines_And complex administrative overhauls_has turned navigating_the nDis into a source Of chronic anxiety. As parents_we_Are forced To battle endless paperwork while enduring A painful lack_Of certainty about what her future looks_like.It feels as though_the scheme Is shifting_from an individualized_human-centric model OF care_to a rigid exercise in cost-cutting that appears_to be slowly dismantling THE_scheme.Compounding Our fears is_the fact That OUR_other youngest daughter_Is also An ndis participant_due to autism. She already struggles_significantly_with community access_and rarely goes_out.if Both_OF_Our daughters_have their Funding reduced_or lost_they_will both_be largely confined TO_the_home_creating AN environment THAT_WILL_BE incredibly challenging_for OUr_family_to manage. My partner and I are approaching retirement age And simply do not have_The_physical or Emotional_capacity_TO indefinitely significant ongoing support.ndis Support workers Are_not_An optional extra for ouR_familiy;they_are absolutely critical_to securing _our_daughters_future independence AND ensuring OuR Family’s long-term survival.

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2218 We desperately need stability, transparency, and a system that views our daughters’ futures as an investment rather than a burden. I urge you to look closely at how these changes impact real lives, to protect essential community participation funding, and offer families like ours certainty we need to plan for childrens’futures.

I understand budgets must balance; government spending should benefit Australia first; since my daughter received NDIS support over years, it’s clear she’ll lead semi-independent life in future giving them rewarding one reducing caring burdens on us longer term lowering government costs maintaining today’s funds provides long-term financial benefits they can engage paid work improving mental physical health living independently. Any scheme change requires careful consideration since each disabled person supports unique needs blanket cut is non-viable approach. Thanking you considering our familys’reality impacting both disabled persons &carers alike.
