Submission 2226
Submission to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee.
CC Dr Jim Chalmers M P Submitted by redacted Consent to publish without my name: Dear Members,
About me.
Thank you for asking for submissions on the proposed new Act and takingthe time to read and consider our thoughts. We suggest possible alternatives to someof the items in the Amendment. However, firstly I accept that the NDIS is a fantastic program initiated by the Australian parliament.I understand:
- That the cost of the program is extremely high
- The cost continually increases under current guidelines
- Each year more people access this scheme due to increasing costs making sustainability difficult
- Changes are needed regarding entry criteria.
HOW THE CHANGES ARE MADE.
I am concerned about how changes will affect participants’ plans being reviewed over phone with results fed into computer programs similar ROBODEBT; these decisions should be made within days rather than weeks.

Often when unforeseen circumstance change during a plan, a decision is almost immediately needed. Having to wait 90 days is not in the best interest to cope more with normal living conditions. The system has been changed, since it was proposed to deny an reassessment because parents suddenly invalidated or had no access to transport, emotional support assistance daily tasks. These changes appear strengthen NDIA’s argument that parents should provide high level supports areas not directly caused disability. e.g., parenting behavior management transportation assisting daily tasks. This wording needs changing include support outside family circle Elderly parents often can’t supply necessary support. Value Money: a person department looks cheaper options New Act indicates computer will research find suitable option criteria taken published journals selective open manipulation issue must get same outcome lower expenditure recommended peer reviewed literature decision participant’s circumstances reflected act reflects.

The Amendment requires all service providers to be registered. That will make control efficient. A panel will set prices that the providers can charge.( at themoment providers charge the top rate on then DIS list).
