National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission: Submission 2228 Date: May 31st, 2026

Submission to the Senate enquiry into National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations)

Bill 2026 My name is [redacted], I am 57 years old and have lived with disability since acquiring an injury from my brain trauma nearly four decades ago. I deeply care about proposed amendments within the NDIS Bill as it stands today, as someone who has been using wheelchair support services full-time ever since becoming part of the NDIS participant program back around year two thousand eighteen. The NDIS plan that was put together specifically catered towards me allowed myself to stay mobile both physically AND independently throughout all aspects such as being able to lead life as husband, homeowner, tax payer, and even continue working on major projects in open employment where a non-governmental organization employs over twenty-five people every single day doing valuable community work in areas not supported otherwise. It’s clear now more than before how much needed changes had already taken place long prior. The Labor government inherited systemic problems regarding implementation once they took power. These big sweeping changes are rushed through without due process or safeguards which means transparency and appropriate parliamentary consultation will be lacking. Minister Butler said ‘returning scheme original purpose’ but this amendment runs huge risks to quality-of-life hundreds-thousands Australians live with disabilities. This wide-ranging bill contains complex interacting changes; however public consultations aren’t enough time for assessment properly.

The Impact Analysis by Government’s own Advisory Committee on Disability Reform warned State & Federal Ministers earlier May 2026: saying this bill creates barriers constant anxiety about accessing necessary supports living dignified safely, cuts access cuts off communities from disability support services. as if passed without amendments it would cause deterioration injury death among disabled individuals contrary Royal Commission recommendations.

Getting NDIS Plans designed adequately from the start, rather than bringing in tougher unscheduled reassessment rules, would improve efficiency within the\nscheme, and drastically reduce the stress, anxiety and burnout for all those involved, including people with disability and government and sector workers. It would also
reduce costs in other government areas such as health and welfare services.\ Implementing this, rather than the proposed blanket and aggressive toughening of
utscheduled reassessment rules and the loss of review rights, would be safer, less
risky, more productive, and a more humane way to consider what is a human rights
isuee, not purely an economic one. People with disability, and the sustainability oF
