National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2276
Dear Committee Secretary,
I am writing to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs to share my concerns about the National Disability Insurance Scheme and to urge careful consideration of how current reforms are implemented.
I write not as an expert or an organisation but as a NDIS participant affected by these changes due to having Morquio Syndrome MPS4A which progressively affects physical ability with age; relying heavily upon certain programs at risk if discontinued that help sustain existing abilities such Life Skill teaching cooking/cleaning skills & finding alternatives tasks able-bodied do daily bases Group community programs crucially differentiating active life isolation growing up disability seen treated differently many others;
Like other Australians I’ve watched concern reports fraud within scheme providers claiming serve disabled exploiting funds criminal activity diverting money away from genuine needs understand now supporting over than participants cost around $5 billion year far beyond originally projected don’t dispute system must sustainable welcome efforts stamp out fraud exploitation every dollar stolen taken someone depends it;
What worries me is rush control costs root bad actors people program exists protect will bear burden particularly worried:
- Reduction in average funding social/communities participation, approximately $31k down to $26k real impact this has independence those supports dependents;
- Pace transparency reform assessment tools eligibility criteria rules should be made public tested before they take effect after;

The danger of removing supports before genuine alternatives –such as the proposed Inclusive Communities Fund—are actually in place and working.
My request to the Committee: Please ensure that the fight against fraud is pursued vigorously and is clearly separated from decisions about participant funding.Cracking down on dishonest providers should neverbecomea justificatiionfor narrowsingaccessorcuttingnecessarysupportforsenhonestparticipants.Iaskthatreformsbedesignedin genuinepartnershipwithpeoplewithdisabilityandtheirfamilies, with full transparencyabouthowchangeswilleffectreallives.
