National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2336

NDIS Future Generations Bill Submission

Please do not pass the NDIS amendment bill in it’s current form. It removes rights, reduces choices and control and will harm people with a disability.

I have lived with Multiple Sclerosis, a degenerative neurological condition, for over 30 years. The NDIS has changed my life dramatically for the better. I suffer extreme fatigue, mobility issues, bladder issues, paralysis, tremours, visual symptoms and many other disabilities.

The scheme has given me mobility aids to help me move safely, support workers to help with many tasks and to enable me to attend medical appointments, shopping, and occasionally the local market. I have been able to attend exercise physiology which has helped me retain my physical function and balance, all of which improves my life and disability. I have been able to access a wonderfully supportive occupational therapist who has helped with assistive technology, prescribing mobility aids and fatigue management. I have also been able to access my physiotherapist for neurological impairment mangement, which helps keep me safe.

I am extremely concerned the proposed 50% cut to social and community participation funding will impact my life greatly. I fear I won’t be able to attend my many appointments with doctors and therapists or go shopping. I will be left vunerable to a deterioration in my functional capacity and therefore safety. I fear falling and helplessness.

I am concerned Self Management of my NDIS is in jeopardy with this bill. I have self managed my plan for five years and this allows me to use non registered providers which has saved me a lot of money as I don’t need to mention the NDIS. This saves them charging higher rates and adding Travel costs. I am a very frugal person and always find ways to lower costs. Self Management gives me choice and control over my funding, helping it stretch further, saving the cost of a plan manager. I am also concerned that my support worker and other supports will need to unnecessarily undergo some form of registration which will limit my choices.

I am terrifed that new bill could mean the Minister could have the power to dramatically cut any group of funding without consultation or reasoning at any time. This is abhorrent! We need consultation and oversight before any changes are made.

I am also concerned about the proposed functionality capacity testing. I cannot see how this can be done fairly and accurately without the input of an allied health professional. Disabilities vary so dramatically the testing needs to be done by the appropriate trained professional. This also troubles me greatly.

Please do not pass the bill in it’s current form. I am fearful and anxious about what my future would be if it is passed.

Your sincerely,
