National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2356
NDIS submission
I have worked as a support worker for several years now and have been amazed by the improvement in my clients wellbeing and quality of life.
He used to be hospitalised for up to 3 weeks about 4 or 5 times a year we are now for the first time since I have worked with him gone for over a year without having to call the CAT team or needing him to be hospitalised.
We have worked to improve his supports continuously, always learning better ways to allow him to stay regulated and begin to be able to have genuine quality of life.
He can now attend family functions, knowing he can safely leave when he needs to. Have a sense of autonomy in terms of being able to go out and be supported to do so, giving his wife, his main carer, some much needed respite, so she can attend to other life matters, and get some rest.
Removing 50% of his funding would be of real consequence to his mental health as well as placing a huge strain financially on my family as well have come to rely financially on the support work I do.
Instead of taxing the wealthy corporations like the gas companies you are taking from the most vulnerable in the community. The optics are awful. I agree that where there are dodgy practices and people abusing the NDIS, these people should be weeded out. But a sledgehammer approach will mean many incredible improvements the NDIS has allowed to be lost.
Please be more nuanced with the way you approach this. You are dealing with people so vulnerable, the consequences are life or death. So tread with care.
