National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2497
Submission on Proposed Changes to the NDIS Act
Introduction
I am the parent of an NDIS participant ( ) and have prepared this submission on her behalf.
I value the essential support that the scheme provides in enabling me to live a meaningful and independent life. This submission outlines my current experience with the NDIS, my concerns regarding the proposed changes to the NDIS Act, and the potential impacts these changes may have on my wellbeing, independence, and support network.
What the NDIS Means to Me
The NDIS plays a critical role in supporting my daily life and overall wellbeing. It enables me to:
Feel supported in my everyday activities Live more independently, rather than relying solely on my parents and family Participate in social and recreational activities that I enjoy and that contribute positively to my health Maintain and improve my overall wellbeing
Without these supports, my ability to function independently and remain connected to my community would be significantly reduced.
Concerns About the Proposed Changes
I feel nervous and uncertain about the proposed changes to the NDIS Act. In particular:
I am worried that my funding may be reduced I am concerned that it may become harder for me to participate in activities that are beneficial to my wellbeing I fear that reduced flexibility or support could negatively impact my independence
These concerns reflect the importance of maintaining adequate and appropriate funding to ensure I can continue to live a balanced and supported life.

Clarity of Information
At present, I do not feel that the changes have been explained clearly enough.
It is unclear how the changes will affect individual participants I am concerned that the true impact of the changes will only become apparent at the time of my plan review
This lack of clarity creates uncertainty and stress for participants like myself, who rely heavily on consistent and predictable support.
Impact on Me and My Support Network
If my funding or supports are reduced, the impact will extend beyond me and affect my broader support network:
My daily life may become more difficult and less manageable My family may experience increased pressure to provide additional support My carers and community connections may also be affected by reduced resources
The NDIS not only supports individuals but also helps reduce strain on families and informal carers. Any reduction in support risks shifting that burden back onto them.
Impact of Reduced Social and Community Supports
Social and community participation is a vital part of my life. If these supports were reduced or removed:
I would be unable to participate in social activities with my peers My social inclusion and connection to the community would decline My parents would face increased pressure to support me, particularly on weekends I would require additional support at my Supported Independent Living (SIL) home if I could no longer attend my usual Saturday social group
These supports are essential not just for enjoyment, but for maintaining mental health, independence, and social inclusion.
Impact of Reduced Capacity Building Supports
National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2497
Capacity building supports are critical for maintaining my health and independence. If these were reduced or removed:
My health and wellbeing would decline Due to my disability, I rely on funded supports to engage in exercise and maintain physical health Losing this support would limit my ability to stay active, leading to potential long-term health consequences
These supports are an investment in my long-term wellbeing and help prevent more intensive support needs in the future.
Conclusion
The NDIS is essential to my independence, wellbeing, and participation in the community. The proposed changes raise significant concerns about reduced funding, lack of clarity, and the potential for negative impacts on both myself and my support network.
I strongly urge that:
Clear and transparent information be provided about how changes will affect participants Participant supports be protected to ensure continued independence and wellbeing The broader impacts on families, carers, and communities be carefully considered
Maintaining adequate funding and support is critical to ensuring that people with disability can continue to live fulfilling and independent lives.
