National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2606
Hello,
I am writing on behalf of my 16 year old son who has only recently gained access to the ndis.
He will need lifelong support as he has an ABI secondary to a craniopharginoma and has low vision. His peripheral vision is damaged in his left eye and he can’t see further than 6 metres in his right eye. This was all from the craniopharginoma a slow growing benign tumour that has damaged his piturity and hypothalamus glands. He will never be able to drive because of his damaged vision. He will be on medication for life and will need support to help him to get out and about. His memory and cognitive will be permanently impaired also.
The supports he has were only received from October last year and have made a difference already. He can only attend school for 2-3 half days due to his chronic fatigue. He sees an exercise physiologist twice a week and attends create therapy to help with his depression. He has a support worker to take him out and get him to his appointments. All this has been possible because of the ndis. I understand we need to make this sustainable for the future for all current participants and people who haven’t gained access yet.
Please consider how the drastic cuts will affect the people who need the supports. To take this away will not only affect the people that need it, but families also. The supports that are currently in place enhance the quality of life for so many people.
I am one of many that appreciate the support I have received for my son. And want to see it continue into the future.
Kind regards
