Concerns over NDIS cuts impacting essential client services (Provider experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2692

Dear Senators,

I ask that the Parliament not pass the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 in its current form. If this comes into law, it will reduce rights, decrease participant choice, and cause harm.

I am a registered counsellor and NDIS provider. I have heard first-hand from my NDIS clients their distress, fear and confusion about the proposed cuts.

It’s widely acknowledged that when the NDIS was set up, there was too little regulation and oversight of providers. The provider side of things must be cleaned up before looking at any savings that would directly affect participants. Why should participants pay the price for the design faults embedded in the original set-up and the greed of unscrupulous providers?

I’ve seen articles in the media portraying ‘community participation’ as funding non essential activities only. My NDIS clients inform me that they use this funding for essential tasks, such as travel to medical or vet appointments. It’s important that any assessment of this funding takes this into account.

I chafe at the unfairness of this bill; the Government baulks at taxing gas exporters a fair rate, but seems happy to sacrifice the health and quality of life of NDIS participants to fix the bottom line.

I urge you to reject this Bill in its current form and centre the experience of NDIS participants in any consultation on the current cost of the scheme.

Thank you for the opportunity to make this submission.

Yours sincerely

Registered Counsellor (Australian Counselling Association)
