Concerns about reduced supports for disabled Australians and their families (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2748

To the Committee,

My name is and I am writing to oppose the proposed NDIS Amendment Bill.

I am the aunt of a young boy who receives support through the NDIS. I am also someone who believes strongly that disabled Australians deserve the same opportunities, dignity and access to support as everyone else.

Watching my nephew’s journey has taught me a lot about disability. It has shown me how many barriers disabled people face, and how often families are left fighting systems that should be helping them.

The NDIS is not a luxury. It is not an extra. For many people, it is the difference between participating in their community and being excluded from it.

I have seen how the right supports can help a child access education, build relationships, develop skills and become more confident in themselves. I have also seen how much work families put in behind the scenes to make those outcomes possible.

As someone who cares deeply about disability inclusion, I am concerned by any proposal that could make supports harder to access or reduce the assistance available to people who rely on it.

A society should be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members. Disabled Australians deserve support, respect and the opportunity to live meaningful lives.

I believe we should be strengthening the NDIS, not weakening it.

I urge the Committee to reject changes that could reduce supports for disabled Australians and their families.

Yours sincerely,
