National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2855
The NDIS has supported me with all activities of daily living and to maximise choice and control about how this occurs and by whom. The proposed changes have not been thought through adequately. I don’t feel these changes have been explained clearly enough. The proposed changes will affect me and my informal supports adversely. They will reduce my already limited choice and control further and will shift extra responsibility to my informal supports (elderly parents) which is unfair and potentially unsafe.
My current options of social and community supports are already limited. Further reducing or removing these is outrageous. If anything, they should be increased and made more accessible.
If my capacity building supports were reduced or removed, this would be unsafe as my support workers would not receive adequate skilling up and my assistive technology may be inappropriate and dangerous.
The ability to reduce funding for specified categories of supports could
Critics argue this could:
Shift decision-making away from my needs. Create uncertainty for participants like me who rely on long-term support arrangements.
The changes could make the system less flexible for people like me who have complex needs. There may be longer waits for essential items like wheelchairs.
Changes of this scale require extensive co-design with the disability community.
