Submission 3026 — Name Withheld — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3026

My name is and I am an NDIS participant, recently employed. I am living with a pinal cord injury resulting in complete paralysis from my shoulders down.

I am writing to you today share some of my concerns about this ‘National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026’.

As it stands, I feel too much power will be left to Ministerial discretion. Allowing the ‘Minister to reduce funding for specified groups of supports’. Will be ignoring the complexities of an individual’s life with disability and will be putting many lives at risk. How can any single person, consider and understand the complexities and risks that many real Australians with disabilities are facing?

What is being considered as more valuable, human well-being or numbers on a page?

Another risk, is how that Minister can change, depending on election results and then potentially make further sweeping changes, rushing into something for a political clout.

This lack of safeguarding and uncertainty adds even more stress to our lives. Sudden cuts to smaller regular health maintenance and service appointments, often result in significantly larger costs later on when conditions deteriorate. (e.g. a small untreated ingrown toenail or pressure sore, leading to sepsis and an emergency department visit).

Further, knee jerk policy decisions that affect necessary wellbeing appointments, daily life routines and access to suitable assistive technology, often recklessly pushes responsibility and risk onto already strained informal supports.

Not everyone has the luxury of having stable, strong support networks or negotiation power just to be able to live a life free of needless suffering.

I do not believe the current Bill will ensure a safe/sensible change that supports NDIA workers and Participant’s risk levels and quality of life. Short term cuts for ultimately long term suffering and larger costs.

I believe a more reasonable focus could be to improve the integrity and efficiency of the NDIS. By allocating appropriate client cases to staff with relevant background knowledge and having better training for staff. As well as investigating and tracking intentional versus unintentional non-compliance.

Thank you for all that you do and your consideration would be greatly appreciated.
