National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill
7th July 2026
I am a participant of the NDIS.
My position on this Bill is that I DO NOT SUPPORT IT.
The NDIS is already incredibly difficult to interact with, even just when accessing the most simple supports. I believe that more formal processes and the potential for automated processes will make this complexity and difficulty even worse for participants like me.
I have been a participant of the NDIS for around 5 years and I still find that every time I need to apply for something or change something in my plan it is so difficult I cannot do it without the support of my support worker. My funding ends up being spent on supports to help me convince the NDIS to let me use my funding the way I need rather than the allied health professionals spending their time working on the actual supports I require in my life, to build capacity.
I do not think that automating systems will make any of this easier, given that this would also introduce far more room for error than should be acceptable for a system where mistakes can mean the difference between life or death.
I feel very fearful about the ‘not contactable’ segment of this bill. It causes me great worry that the most vulnerable in our community are often those that cannot communicate consistently. I feel worry that they would be deeply at risk of losing all their supports when they may already be in crisis - hence not communicating!
I have found that it can be very hard to make it clear to the NDIS that something I need is actually because of my autism. Less of an individualised approach to assessments will make this harder still.
Flexibility of supports is necessary for someone with my disabilities because what we need can change with time.
My overall message in response to this bill is that PLANS SHOULD REFLECT THE NEEDS OF PARTICIPANTS. The way the NDIS is currently operating is not effective, but these reforms are not the kind that will help - they are the kind that will make things that are already an issue much worse.
My position on this Bill is that I DO NOT SUPPORT IT - it does not reflect the needs of the disabilities community or myself personally.
