Subject: Submission to the Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment

(Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Dear Committee Members,

I am writing to formally lodge my submission opposing the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026. As a full-time worker, mother, and carer, I am deeply concerned about the catastrophic, cascading impacts these legislative changes will have on my family’s survival, economic stability, and health. While these reforms are framed around “sustainability”, the reality on the ground is terrifying. I work full-time and care for three children, two of whom have high, complex needs:

  • My 20-year-old has an Intellectual Impairment, Level 3 ASD, ADHD, and a severe skin- picking disorder that requires daily wound care and regular medical interventions to manage infections.

  • My 18-year-old has Level 2 ASD, ADHD, and Borderline Personality Disorder.

  • My husband and I both have ASD and ADHD. Only our two adult children receive NDIS support, and it is already completely inadequate to provide any real quality of life. Despite this, I am already completely burnt out, neglecting my own multiple health issues due to a total lack of time and support. If our NDIS supports are reduced further by this legislation, the economic and social impact on my family will look like this:

  • Economic collapse & bankruptcy: I will be forced to quit my full-time job because the funding will not cover the required care. We will be unable to pay our mortgage, forcing us into bankruptcy and onto the pension.

  • Severe mental health crisis: My 18 and 20-year-olds do not want to socialise with their mother; they deserve to access the community with respite workers their own age. Forcing them to stay trapped at home will trigger severe depression and escalating meltdowns for them, and worsen my own depression.

  • Health system burden: Stripping our support will result in all five members of my neurodivergent family deteriorating, ultimately clogging the public health system with worsening, unmanaged conditions.

  • Local unemployment: The trusted local providers who support my children will lose major clients, driving up local unemployment. Removing supports does not remove disability or support needs. It simply transfers the financial and emotional burden onto collapsing family structures, hospitals, and unpaid carers. If the

government is genuinely concerned about sustainability, the solution is fixing system failures, properly funding foundational supports, and stopping provider misconduct - not stripping basic survival and dignity from disabled Australians. I honestly do not know how I can continue on in this world if my family is reduced to being trapped at home with no quality of life. I urge the Committee to listen to the lived realities of families and recommend that this Bill be rejected. Yours sincerely,
