National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3153
Many functional capacity assessment tools were investigated years ago and many meant rural/regional/remote participants would be negatively affected. How will this be safeguarded to prevent these negative affects? We cannot access a plethora of services out here example: theres only one paediatric physio in the area.
The safeguards that will apply in relation to the use of technology to automate administrative actions - how is participant privacy protected? How is the carers information protected?
The supports funded via community participation and capacity building support budgets enable skill building which isn’t available in other forms. This enables access to the community whilst learning life skills for those whom could later reduce their supports on the NDIS.
Yes I agree early intervention (EI) needs to be separate to NDIS but so does mental health. Mental health is funded separately and now many are double dipping by accessing NDIS. We have community mental health and NGO mental health supports but these aren’t adequate yet the NDIS was never designed for mental health.
Reason to separate EI: Many Occupational Therapy services cannot give a report that demonstrates outcomes / progress or future recommendations adequately. They just want repeat visits to then give nothing in writing. EI should be showing areas of success.
What has happened to the respite facilities FACS previously owned? Can they be given back to the govt to sell or use as group homes?
The price per night for respite is insane! This needs to be cut first. The independent support workers charging this (over $1200/night) need to be adequately qualified.
You need to guarantee review rights where a participant’s funding is significantly reduced. Including the qualified therapists advice. It gets frustrating when someone dictates a budget around supporting vulnerable participants but has no experience working with PWDs.
Reform should strengthen the NDIS, not strip away the fairness, choice and individualised supports at the heart of the scheme. But it should never fund someone’s holiday.
